FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why should I use fibreglass (GRP) on my roof instead of felt?
In our opinion, GRP is the best flat roof material on the market for the vast majority of the residential jobs we undertake. For larger scale commercial projects that require a fast application with only minimum disturbance, we may sometimes recommend liquid rubber as the ideal solution for you - but don't worry, we have lots of experience working with this solution too!
How much more expensive is fibreglass (GRP) than other options?
Surprisingly, considering how effective and long-lasting GRP roofs are compared to even more modern felt, it is not much more expensive at all. Please feel free to reach out and contact us for a free, no obligation quote by clicking here.
What exactly is a fibreglass (GRP) flat roof?
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Polyester, a composite material formed by strengthening plastic with fine fibres made of glass. This single ply laminate has been used as a reliable means of covering and waterproofing roofs for over 60 years, although it's popularity has soared in recent years thanks to new systems from manufacturers such as Cromar - the product we use when installing fibreglass flat roofs - making it what we believe to be the best flat roof material. Can you tell me more about your liquid rubber solution?
For large, mainly commercial/industrial projects we sometimes advise that liquid rubber might be a better option for your needs. This will be because we think that a key part of your project is minimising disturbance as a liquid rubber roof can be applied quickly and without intruding on the commercial environment as much as a GRP roof replacement might. We use Kemper System's world leading cold liquid applied flat roof waterproofing system, KEMPEROL® to ensure that you receive a service that is trusted globally. You can find more information about this solution here.
Is a flat roof with skylights a lot more expensive?
Just another of the things that makes us say that fibreglass (GRP) is the best flat roof material is that its external finish pairs perfectly with skylights! Our sister company, Ascot Skylights, manufactures slim bar lantern and pyramid - as well as standard flat - skylights with GRP upstands to help them fit perfectly and outlast most others. These start from £295 inclusive per skylight and we can build the costs into your project when we provide a quote.
How long does it take to install a replacement flat roof made from fibreglass (GRP)?
One of our favourite things about GRP, helping make it the best flat roof material as far as we're concerned, is that a replacement or new roof can be fitted within 1-2 days!
